All guests at Caring House are referred by oncology social workers or patient resource managers at the Duke Comprehensive Cancer Center and must be receiving any of a variety of outpatient treatments at the Center on a regular basis. Please note that a referral does not guarantee a room. Only when a room becomes available can the house manager call to confirm that a person who has been referred has a room on a given date. All rooms can accommodate two or three people. That is, there is a limit of two or three persons per room, two in a room with twin beds, and three in a room with a double bed and a twin bed. Guests may be required to be accompanied by a caregiver (family member or friend) at the request of Caring House staff or if recommended by the social worker. Caregivers must be eighteen years of age or over, and there may be no more than one or two caregivers per guest.
For referrals, call an oncology social worker at Duke Comprehensive Cancer Center at (919) 668-6676.

“It has truly been a blessing to be able to talk
and interact with
others
who are all sharing their experiences with
one another (better than a
counseling session)."
–Maria L. Reynolds

“Caring House is a great place. The facility
is beautiful, but it's
not
just the facility that makes it special. It
is also the support of all
the
staff, volunteers, and residents. At Caring
House, you get both a home
and
a family."
–Mary Ellen (Mellen) Shea
